The Magisterium is an academy for those with a propensity toward magic. It has a series of tunnels and is located in a secret location underground.

Before acceptance, the new mage must pass a test called the Iron Trial. Masters choose their apprentices, possibly through the Iron Trial.
The Magisterium has five years to train its apprentices and is, presumably, only a stage of a mage's education before proceeding to Collegium.[1]. Students chosen for the Magisterium are each issued a leather wristband, and the large piece of hammered metal around it is changed every year to reflect their level: iron for first years, followed by copper, bronze, silver, and, finally, gold for fifth-years. On the wristband are spaces where stones representing a mastered element can be affixed, such as blue stone for water, or the rare black stone for those who have mastered the fifth element, Chaos.[2]

At the end of each year, students must pass through a gate to prove their mastery of the elements.[3]
