Assemblyman Graves is an old mage and a member of the Assembly of Mages. He seems to dislike Call[1] and has a disregard for the lives of others.[2]

The Copper Gauntlet[]

Graves was among the Assembly members present for Aaron, Call, Tamara, Jasper's, and Alastair's trial. Because the students escaped the custody of the Magisterium and promptly caused a panic, particularly because Aaron was a Makar and important to the mage community, they were furious. Graves was among those who addressed the group, and Aaron quickly defended their actions. Graves got into an argument with Call, who was able to silence him with undeniable evidence: Constantine Madden's decapitated head. After getting over his shock, Graves announced that their war against the Enemy is over.[1]

The Bronze Key[]

Graves appeared at the conference in the War Room[3] during the ceremony celebrating the heroes who defeated the Enemy. He led the meeting and moved for the clean up of the chaos-ridden animals around the Magisterium's grounds, although he made a begrudging exception for the Order of Disorder's studies and Havoc, Call's wolf. In general, Graves wanted to expunge all remaining traces of Constantine's work from the world.[3]

The Silver Mask[]

As an Assemblyman, Graves was present at the battle against Alex's forces and was present when Call came to parlay with the mages.[4] He was incredibly upset with Call, claiming that he had torn apart the mage world and that he needed to "destroy" the newly resurrected Aaron. He didn't want Call to come back to the mages in any capacity, not even to go to the Panopticon and in fact was only present as the urging of Call's friends and family.[4]

Graves was the one to tell Callum that the Assembly wanted him to destroy Alex and himself, which Tamara, Jasper and Master Rufus, who were with him at the time, were shocked by. It's unclear whether they simply weren't told or if this was an improvisation on the Assemblyman's part.[4]

The Golden Tower[]

Graves appeared again in his capacity as Assemblyman, this time after Alex, now a Devoured of chaos, attacked the Magisterium.[2] He suggested that Call become a Devoured of chaos as well, to protect the mage world. Just before the mages "hand over" Tamara, Jasper, and Call, Graves is killed.
