This Discussion will probably contain spoilers for all five Magesterium books.

    • Do you think they're going to make a sequel where they go to the collegium?

        Loading editor
    • I really hope they do.

    • It didn’t do enough for me. The Silver Mask was fast paced and intense and culminated in a short yet epic battle. The characters and the action felt real, but in the Golden Tower, things didn’t seem as intense or as in depth. We had multiple major characters die extremely casually. I just don’t feel like as much time went into this book as The Silver Mask.

I noticed that a bit too, but I liked the less intense action. The Silver Mask felt very crammed to me, and there was a lot going on. The Golden Tower had more internal and political struggle than action. It reminded me a lot of the Iron Trial and it had a lot of parelells, which I really enjoyed as a conclusion to the series.

We had multiple major characters die extremely casually.

I predicted Alistairs death long before it happened and I didn't like how none of the characters even thought that Alistair disaperaring like that was a little shady. What other characters are you refering too for major deaths? Anastasia? Anastaisia I think couldn't have survived any scenario. She was a loose plotline to tie up.

The Golden Tower wasn't my favorite book, but it was a fun read and a reasonably satisfing conclusion.

I would read that if its even written. I've gotten attached to the characters and it would be great to read more about them.

However, I just don't think it's going to happen. :( There isn't much left to tell and the plot would need to be completely new. I think Cassandra Claire and Holly Black are just going to move on to their other series. The fanbase barely exists anymore anyways.

There were two Master that Alex killed, and I just felt that it kinda got brushed over.

    • I'm still wondering how Tamra failed, I mean in the prophecy it says "one of you will fail, one of you will die and one of you is already dead" but it doesn't seem like Tamra failed.

    • That’s why I do t like prophecies in books. They always seem to leave lose ends.

I agree, I read the book a few weeks ago and I'd almost forgotten that Alex kills a few masters. It almost doesn't matter to the plot of the Golden Tower, but those were charcters, especially Master Millagros (i think it was at least), who has been in the books since the Iron Trial.

The one who was "already dead" was Call, originally because he had been Constantine, and after the Golden Tower reveal because he had been alot of other dark wizards before that.

The one who "will die" was Aaron, as shown in the Bronze Key.

I had thought even since the Bonze Key that Tamara was "the one who will fail" because of what happens with the Alkaheist and how she fails by letting Aaron get killed, but she didn't really end up failing in the long run.

    • One thing from the Golden Tower that bothered me while I read it was the reveal that Call had inside him the soul of a realy dark, evil, wizzard. It feels like it was tacked onto the story later because there wasn't much buildup hinting at it in previous books.

It seemed a little too good to be true that there had been a 'dark and evil villan' behind all of the story. The way I had been reading the books all of the sudden, Aaron is poking around in Call's brain, finds a creepy memory block, opens it quite stupidly, and Call goes into a coma/halucination for DAYS.

Were there any hints towards it in previous books that I missed?

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, no. That bit just poppped up out of nowhere as far as I can tell.

    • I think that Tamara felt that she failed Aaron becuse she had to save Call or Aaron and she saved Call.

I also think that the book could have been much longer and eplained more of the loose ends that they left.

        Loading editor
    • I agree that there were a few loose ends that didn’t get tied up completely. I don’t have my copy of the book with me right now so I can’t list the specific parts that I thought could have been wrapped up better, but in general the book felt like it wasn’t really an ending. Maybe it was just that we’ve waited a long time to get the book and I didn’t reread the series before starting the Golden Tower?

    • I think that mose of the books should have been longer, the books only comprise of the main plot, it would have been nice to have some sub plots in the books as well such as seeing Calls time at school and stuff.

Im hoping that there is going to be a series about the colleguium so they can tie up the loose and and we can get another series!

    • And prequels while we're at it, nothing better than seeing through the eyes of Alastair, or this mysterious evil guy that came out of the blue, or maybe like explaining stuff in the series?

Ooh! That's a good idea! I hadn't even considered the possibility of a preqel. There's so much that was mentioned breifly that could be elaborated on like the Mage War or Alistair's time at the Magesterium. There was a lot of history for mysterious evil guy that was compressed into a few pages and more tragic, angsty backstory for Constantine and Jerico.

        Loading editor
    • Yes! I would love a prequel! we could learn more about the Mage war, what Constantine was realy like before he was evil and how he discovered his chaos magic! It would aso be great for it to be in Alastairs POV.

If they do make a series about the collegium then it would be made next year, along with the main characters aging another year, because they seem to make one book a year.

        Loading editor
    • A page should be made on that Morgriss character

        Loading editor
    • I wish we knew more about him. He just kinda popped up then was done with pretty quickly.

        Loading editor
    • Details need to be discussed, because the appearence of a random person in the books unexplained isn't enough for the readers. Information would have less people scratching their heads in confusion in what they've just read.

        Loading editor
    • How exactly would we go about getting a new series with the same characters at the collegium? Hmmm... Spam their social media? :)

        Loading editor
    • I have a feeling that will not work.

    • Unless, we could convince them somehow..?

    • Is there any chance that the soul inside of Alex's body Maguris instead of Aaron?

        Loading editor
    • I doubt it, but I would love that.

        Loading editor
    • There was a line or two where Alex/Aaron gave Call a strange look that made him doubt him so its possible.

        Loading editor
    • It is a really good idea, and I think it actually fits into the story well, so maybe, hopefully, possibly.

        Loading editor
    • I don't think it's possible, I mean he did pass the golden gate.

        Loading editor
    • Or did he? Is it possible he just walked through an empty gate knowing what it meant? Okay now I’m stretching this theory a bit far, but I think it’d be cool to see.

        Loading editor
    • Consider that Aaron brought up one of Call's crappy plans, and also that Call IS that other guy (It's his soul, if I'm understanding that correctly and am not just stupid) it seems implausable

        Loading editor
    • Considering they make a direct mention that Call knows he is just Call I think its entirely possible that Maugris/Constantine failed to push baby Call's soul out of his body since his magic had been weakened by fighting the other mages in the cave and he was dying at the same time. Maugris may have been too focused on the memory box and failed to push baby Call's soul out of his body only giving him memories. This would make sense as Call wasn't like Maugris and Aaron saw Call's soul and him and Maugris acted way differently based on the short amount of memories we are told about. Also Call only saw images from his life not Maugris or Constantine's as he passed through the gate.

    • Were he and Alma just plot devices for the story or did they have a larger meaning when it came down to it? I was looking through the story and we only saw Alma a couple of times, once at the order of disorder, once at the fields/forest when they got the animals, once when they talked to the dead girl, and once when she accused Call of being Constantine.

    • Also, does anybody have any suggestions for a new books series? I just read this one and now whatever I read it just isn't as good... (not harry potter tho I don't like that series)

    • i think that they were most likely plot devices.

      also, read The Edge CHronichles.

later books get fairly dark, beware gore as well.
